Another lip-reader

By The Bakersfield Californian

Columnist Scott Cox is spot-on in his comments about the manner in which current technology allows vocally and musically flawed singers to thrive in our time ("Read my lips: Don't lie; sing," Jan. 24). For decades I have told my students at CSU Bakersfield to watch and listen carefully and discover how many of those singers at events such as Super Bowl halftime extravaganzas are faking it. As a result, countless students' take on such things have changed dramatically.

For those interested in real singers and real singing, I suggest they attend the next concert by the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra on Feb. 9 where seven world-class vocal artists will present the real thing -- singing music of opera greats Verdi and Wagner with full orchestra but without digitally artificial tweaking. Come and treat your ears to the real thing.
