Welcome progress on Highway 46
By The Bakersfield Californian
On a recent trip to the Central Coast, I had the pleasure of driving on the newly widened portion of Highway 46 in Kern County. I want to congratulate the Kern Council of Governments for its vision in funding these improvements and Caltrans for getting the work completed. I need to also thank former Rep. Bill Thomas for the added funding he helped obtain that allowed the full 25 miles to be completed.
Additional funding will be required to complete the eight-mile segment east to Interstate 5. Major obstacles to completing Highway 46 are the expensive demands of both the Chevron and Aera oil companies.
