On the afternoon of July 9, I had to run errands for work. My last stop was to pick up a $10 gift card for an employee's birthday. In the 100-degree-plus weather, I drove around the parking lot twice looking for a place to park, but there wasn't one empty spot. The day before, I had also stopped at Starbucks trying to purchase the gift card but their computers were down.
Instead of leaving again and returning the next day, I decided to try the drive-thru. I placed my order for a gift card and, with my last $5 in my wallet, decided to treat myself to a nice, cold drink.
When I got to the window, I was told that my drink had been paid for. I was pleasantly surprised! I asked if she knew who blessed me. I thought it was maybe the car in front of me, as the car I am driving is clearly marked with the name of the nonprofit company I work for.
I was very surprised that a customer had come in to the store and left a $50 gift card with the instructions to pay for everyone who purchases a drink in the drive-thru until the card is used up.
Whoever this person was, I just want to thank them for such a kind gesture and let them know it was such a nice treat on a hot summer day. It's nice to know that there are still some thoughtful, generous people in Bakersfield.
No longer thirsty or broke.
