The myth of presidential vacations

By The Bakersfield Californian

I'm getting really tired of folks complaining about presidential vacations (mainly just President Obama's), alluding to the false assumption that a president is ever released from their responsibility, whether in Texas or in Hawaii.

In the modern world, a president is "connected" 24/7 to their information stream is are surrounded by their senior advisors, even when away from Washington. The assumption that the nation's business can only be done while in D.C. is a false one. This is especially true considering that Congress is on its annual five-week vacation right now. President Obama isn't even in the same league as the recent king of presidential vacations, George W. Bush.

The business of the presidency of the goes on around the clock, whether in Crawford, Texas, on a beach in Hawaii, or on the golf course. Give these guys a break. Their job and responsibility never goes away -- regardless of the environment.
