Hospitals conjure up scary thoughts of doom, gloom, panic and dread. I am still astounded that my visit to Mercy Southwest Hospital was so pleasant. Yes, I said pleasant. The staff was compassionate, respectful, cheerful, professional and fun. The atmosphere was peaceful, unhurried, clean, fresh and comfortable. They encouraged me to come in my pajamas and robe. I felt as taken care of as if I were at a spa, and I felt that Mercy Southwest is obviously a great place to work.
In telling someone about my visit, I remarked that we need to get over to Mercy and grab whoever is running it to get in charge of Kern Medical Center. Imagine my delight upon seeing the front page Nov. 13 ("Russell Judd named new Kern Medical Center CEO"). You go, Mr. Judd!
