A bittersweet honor
By The Bakersfield Californian
Thank you for including Cliff Thompson in the Dec. 29 retrospective "Farewell to many Kern heroes, one villain in 2012." Because he was at odds with some of the politicians currently holding office in Taft, they were unable to put that aside and fly the flag at half staff after he died in April; they had done so in the past for lesser men. Thompson fought tirelessly for Taft, and did more than anyone I can remember in the 22 years I resided there. I found it somewhat bittersweet that The Californian included him, yet the city of Taft was unable to show the respect due him.
