Pools always a big summer draw

I, and I'm sure others, got a good laugh out of the description of city parks director Dianne Hoover's thoughts about the pool repairs needed at Siemon Park: "Hoover said even if repairs are made, the pool is too outdated to attract many visitors" ("Residents split on pool, spray park at Siemon," Sept. 6).
I'm thinking that during Bakersfield's hot summers, any hole in the ground with cool water would attract visitors! The only time I've ever seen an empty public pool area in the summertime was when the facility was closed for the day, or the water was missing from the "cement pond"!
