Mayors crossed the line
By The Bakersfield Californian
This week, in one resounding voice, the people of America spoke. We showed up in droves to say that we will not be silenced by strong-arm tactics. The president of Chick-fil-A stated his opinion on gay marriage. The mayors of three major cities then declared that Chick-fil-A was not welcome in their cities because the chain does not share their cities' values.
Put aside the gay marriage issue for just a moment and look at the big picture. What side you agree with matters not. What is at stake here is our First Amendment right to free speech. No mayor has the right to punish a businessman for his opinion. If you disagree with him, then use some common sense and don't eat there. But how dare you ban his business from your city for voicing his opinion. It is un-American and unconstitutional.
