As a World War II Air Force veteran, I was part of Kern County's "Honor Flight" to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial and other national shrines, a fulfilling and thrilling experience.
However, for me the most emotional impact was the supper sendoff at the airport and the subsequent arrival back home. It reminded me of my coming home at the end of World War II and the love and appreciation expressed at that time. Gifts, lap robes -- all so inspiring. Indeed expressive of the depth of American patriotism. A tribute to the blessing of our living in our great country.
