Nothing to see downtown

By The Bakersfield Californian

I like the look downtown with the bridges and walkways and ducks in the pond and all that, but what I don't understand is why most businesses are closed on the weekends. People work during the week, so they cannot enjoy the new city walks and window-shop at surrounding businesses.

Try taking a bike ride downtown with your kid and a pocketful of money on a Saturday or Sunday. Yunno what? You will come home with a pocketful of money. There's nothing open and nothing to do! It's a bummer! So basically, the only ones enjoying the taxpayers' money are the unemployed! They have all day during the week to stroll around -- but I bet they don't spend much money downtown. Why would anyone go downtown if nothing's open? I guess thats why they go to Valley Plaza -- it's open!
