What I have seen of the shoulder construction work on Highway 119, where it passes through Dustin Acres and Valley Acres, appears to be a waste of taxpayers' money. It has slowed traffic, created a ton of dust, and inconvenienced many of the residents. The shoulder looks more dangerous now than before the construction started. It drops off more steeply now than before the construction.
At one time there was a proposal to build a bypass around this dangerous section of road. What happened to that proposal? There have been numerous rear-end accidents caused when left turning vehicles have stopped on the highway. These vehicles slow down the huge commute volume as they are waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. I had hoped the construction was to widen the road and provide a left-turn lane for these vehicles. What was Caltrans' objective with this construction work?
