Fathers play a role in this, too

Reviewing the graph printed with an informative article ("Rise in abortions raises activism," June 30) shows that Merced, a smaller and poorer county than Kern, had a 76 percent drop in abortions from 2006-10. What did they do to achieve that success? I think that is a worthy effort for Tim Palmquist, administrator of LifeSavers Ministries and perhaps the Bakersfield City Council to pursue. If our citizens are concerned about abortion, I think the place to start is with fathers, since they are instrumental in creation. Perhaps an ordinance requiring fathers to pay child support on time or public shaming if such support is lacking over a six-month time frame is appropriate. It makes much more sense than a Human Life Ordinance
