Forget HSR: Spend on education

By The Bakersfield Californian

Those of you who are interested in the high-speed rail need to let Gov. Jerry Brown know so that he can take it out of your paychecks.

Can you afford it? It's easy to say yes if you are wealthy. The working class of people cannot and should not have to have this expensive tax taken out of their paychecks. We did not vote for this expensive price tag.

I would rather spend money where it counts -- on education and schools. The kids of today are our future. We need to re-vote on this destructive train for the rich and reroute it to our education system. The money could be used for updated technology and facilities for all schools. Just think how much this train money could help our schools with programs to aid kids from all walks of life.

There are more important things in life than whether the rich have a faster way to get from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
