This is regarding the Jan. 18 news article "Taft Union official speaks; comics icon reaches out," in which the Taft Union High School superintendent indicated that information about the Jan. 10 shooting would not be released. The superintendent must know that no education code, civil code, penal code or any other code will prevent citizens from learning the truth.
Withholding details of the shooting and what led to it smacks of a cover-up. Kern County residents, lawmakers and, especially, school administrators throughout the state need this information to defuse situations like this shooting before they occur again. School shootings cannot be swept under the carpet. The lives of teachers, students and custodial staff are hanging in the balance.
