Margaret Haberman, 95, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2014. She was born April 30, 1919 in Roxbury, Wisconsin, to Carl and Flora Lenerz. She was the third of four girls. She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1937. In 1938 Margaret married Gerald (Jerry) Haberman. The first four of their seven children were born in Wisconsin, and the last three were born in California. In 1946 they moved to Pomona, California when Jerry accepted employment with Southern California Edison Company. In 1952 they moved to Bakersfield, where they remained.
Mom was an excellent seamstress and cook. After her husband passed away in 1985, Margaret enjoyed traveling and volunteering at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She even received the Benemerenti Medal from Pope John Paul II in 1996 for providing outstanding service to the church and the community. Margaret was also active in the Legion of Mary and the Women's Guild.
Margaret leaves behind a sister, Lois Skarda of Junction City, Oregon; seven children, Diana Harris (Robert) of Arroyo Grande, James Haberman (Margaret) of San Dimas, Ann Campbell, John Haberman (Ann), Peggy/Margaret Begley (David), Cathy Haberman and Larry Haberman all of Bakersfield; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; and grandson, Keith Campbell of Ventura.
Visitation for Margaret will be held at Basham-Hopson Funeral Care (620 Oregon Street) on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (124 Columbus Street) on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery (3700 River Blvd.) at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
