Anthony Joseph deContreras was born in Los Angeles, California on April 18, 1924 to Aristedes & Pilar deContreras. One of three children he graduated from Manual Arts High School.
Tony was in the Navy during World War II on the George Clymer, as a Signalman. After the war he met and married the love of his life, Beatrice Betty Kelly on October 7, 1946. They moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan where both children were born. They also lived in La Habra, CA and Kailua, HI. Tony retired from Volkswagen of America where he worked as the Manager of a Parts Distributorship in Hawaii for 26 years, finally moving to Bakersfield in 1989.
Tony is survived by his children, Michael deContreras and Sharon (Dan) Ihde, seven grandchildren, Anthony (Malia) Camara of Kaneohe, HI; John Camara of Houston, TX; Jason (Crystal) Camara of Houston, TX, Amy Camara of Bakersfield, Dr Lauren (Dr Ian Cook) Ihde-Cook of Santa Clarita, CA; James (Nickey) Ihde of Houston, TX; Jennifer (Tyler) Stafford of Bakersfield; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Hoffman Hospice and his doctor, Kevin Nelson of Mesa-West.
Tony will be interred at Bakersfield National Cemetery and share a niche with his wife of 66 years.
