Jerry W. Gross, lifelong resident of Bakersfield passed away Sunday May 11th. Jerry was born October 19, 1930 to Melvin and Adele Gross. He graduated from East Bakersfield High School before entering the Army at which time he was stationed in Alaska. Upon his discharge from the Army he returned to Bakersfield and bought a piece of property on Kerrnita Rd where he lived for the rest of his life.
In 1957 he married Betty Jo Minton-Pearce and started a family along with her daughter Suzie. Soon after that Pat, Donna and Mark were added to the family. During this time Jerry worked for San Joaquin Feed; he also started his own feed store business on the Kerrnita Rd property. He was a member of the Rough Riders and one of the founding members of the local Appaloosa Horse Club.
In 1969 he married June W. Kincheloe. June's children, Judy, Chris, and Michael became part of his extended family. Jerry and June continued to run the feed store and breed and race Appaloosa horses. During this time he also worked for Kern County Oil, from which he would retire. June preceded Jerry in death in 1999.
Jerry spent his retirement happily chatting with the many friends that would drop in at the Kerrnita Rd ranch, checking his oil wells, smoking cigars and racing horses. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 14th, at 10:00AM at Greenlawn, 3700 River Blvd.
