CHP releases name of deputy in Oildale crash

The Kern County Sheriff's deputy whose vehicle hit and killed two people crossing a road in Oildale Friday night was identified late today. He is John Swearengin, 34, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident. Swearengin had been taken to a hospital following the crash.
In a brief interview with The Californian today, Kern Sheriff Donny Youngblood said he believed Swearengin had been released Friday night and didn't suffer serious injuries.
"It's very tragic and I'm deeply saddened that two people lost their lives," Youngblood said. "It's just a tragedy."
