Highway 58 closed due to snow

Highway 58 was closed due to snow tonight at Tower Line Road, authorities reported, with additional reports indicating multiple, possibly hundreds, of stranded vehicles.
The Tehachapi News reported at 8:30 p.m. that hundreds of vehicles were believed stuck in snow on Hwy. 58 with snow falling as far down as 2000 feet. The California Highway Patrol was calling for snow plows to help dig out stranded travelers.
Just before 9 p.m. Highway 58 through the Tehachapi Pass was closed. Earlier in the evening the CHP announced closure of Tehachapi Willow Springs Road between Highline Road and Cameron Road due to snow.
Highway 58 was closed from the Junction of Highway 184 to Mojave.
With a high wind advisory in effect through 10 a.m. Wednesday and icy, slick roads and low visibility, officials were bracing for a tough night.
Just before 8:30 p.m., the CHP was dealing with a jackknifed big rig on Highway 58 near the Mill Street exit and multiple trucks blocking the roadway and was running "round-robins" through the summit area of the Tehachapi Pass to slow down traffic, the Tehachapi News reported.
As of this posting Interstate 5 over the Grapevine remained open, but a wind advisory was in effect and conditions could change at any time.
Tuesday's storm moved into Bakersfield late in the afternoon with cold rain.
