Governor sets date for special election to replace Rubio

Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday issued a proclamation setting the dates for the special primary and special general election to replace former Democratic state Sen. Michael Rubio.
The special primary election will take place May 21, and the special general election will be held July 23.
Rubio stepped down from his state Senate seat for the 16th District last month to spend more time with his family.
Gov. Jerry Brown had 14 days from the time Rubio announced his resignation -- which was Feb. 22 -- to set the date of the special elections, giving him until today, Friday.
