Education roundup: PBVUSD to host music festival

The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District will hold its annual Junior High School Music Makers Music Festival 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rabobank Convention Center, 1001 Truxtun Ave. in Bakersfield.
The 29th annual concert features performances by 900 band, choral and orchestral musicians.
Students are from Actis, Stonecreek, Tevis, Thompson and Warren junior high schools.
Admission is free.
The Bakersfield City School District is accepting nominations for inductees into the BCSD Hall of Fame Class of 2013.
The Hall of Fame display, located in the board room lobby of the Education Center at 1300 Baker St., recognizes former students who are professionally accomplished and have distinguished themselves in community service.
Inductees will be announced March 22 and honored at a June 7 gala at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bakersfield.

The Visine Students With Vision scholarship program is seeking applicants.
Graduating high school seniors and current college students with a minimum grade point average of 2.8 may submit an online application through March 1 at www.visine.com/scholarship.
Applicants are selected based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, financial need and demonstrated vision or goal.
About a dozen Kern County schools will be competing in the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science's regional Science Bowl this weekend.
The competition is Saturday at Dorothy Donohoe Hall on the campus of Cal State Bakersfield, 9001 Stockdale Highway.
Eight Bakersfield high schools are sending teams to the contest. Teams from Arvin, California City, Lebec, Shafter and Tehachapi will be there, too.
The winner of the regional competition will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Office of Science's National Science Bowl in late April.
