Motorist killed when car hit by train

A motorist was killed when the vehicle she was driving was struck by a train early Wednesday morning just west of Bakersfield.

The driver, Genevieve Alysse Gamboa, 22, died at the scene, according to the coroner's office.

The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. when a BNSF train struck the Chevy Cavalier, said BNSF spokeswoman Lena Kent. The freight train's two crew members were uninjured.

An investigation is ongoing.
