Worth noting in education: Awards, grants and events

Kaplan College Bakersfield has won its organization's Campus of the Year Award based on staff and faculty commitment to students, graduates, employers and the local community.
During the past year, Kaplan has graduated about 424 students, placed its graduates in nearly 360 jobs and increased its community involvement by supporting the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Kern County Economic Development Corp. and Relay for Life.
The Bakersfield campus was recognized as the best operating location out of 55 Kaplan campuses across the nation.
Bakersfield Christian High School students, teachers and staff have presented Christmas stockings filled with clothing, toys and school supplies to about 28 children from Horace Mann Elementary School in east Bakersfield.
The school's Associated Student Body spearheaded the project.
Wells Fargo Bank has presented the Taft College Foundation with $10,000 to support the foundation's STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program. The program serves K-12 students.
The Paramount Agricultural Companies is awarding grants totalling $329,326.72 to pay for educational projects and school supplies in 35 schools in the 2012-13 school year.
Schools in Kern County will receive the highest number of grants, with 80 out of 120 going to local schools. The average grant award amount is $2,744.39.
