Worth noting in the community: ValleyPBS to be off air Thursday, more

ValleyPBS will be off the air in Kern County on Thursday due to a transmitter tower move, according to a PBS news release.
The outage will begin mid-morning and last until early evening. The outage will also affect ValleyPBS-HD, Valley Create and Valley Vme. The transmitter is being moved to provide better service to Kern County viewers, according to the news release.
The Kern County Homeless Collaborative hosted its second direct service outreach in Oildale on Wednesday, according to a news release from the collaborative.
The collaborative reached out to homeless in the area from the Riverview Assembly of God Church. The outreach was held during the church's weekly food distribution where the church provides lunch and a sermon to members of the community.
The first time the homeless collaborative conducted direct service outreach in Oildale was Oct. 31, when about 100 people came, according to the news release.
A sports league for children with disabilities got a boost from the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.
The chamber donated $1,325 to the League of Dreams to help it buy balls, baseball gloves and bats for participants to use, according to a news release from the chamber. The donation was made as part of the chamber's annual year-end community service project.
The league was founded by the chamber's Board of Directors chairman, Tim Terrio, in 1998. It offers baseball in the spring, basketball in the fall and bowling in the summer.
