The Kern County Superintendent of Schools will hold its 14th annual Kern County College Night at Rabobank Convention Center on Sept. 9.
To be held from 5 to 8 p.m., the event is expected to be bigger and better than ever with an expanded array of information sessions for high school students and thier parents, a Superintendent of Schools news release said.
Representatives from public and private colleges and universities will be on hand to speak with attendees, while breakout sessions will be available on a variety of topics such as how to obtain financial aid.
College night is free and tickets are not required.
The 59th Annual Bakersfield College Alumni Barbecue will be at Stramler Park on Sept. 19.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the traditional barbecued steaks and chicken will be provided by Chef Pat Coyle and students in the BC Culinary Arts Program, a college news release said.
The barbecue is a major fundraiser for the alumni association, which supports BC students and athletic programs.
Stramler Park is at 3805 Chester Ave. and cost is $25 for adults, $15 for students with ID and $5 for children under age 12. For tickets call 395-4326.
This year's Boots and Bachelor Auction fundraiser benefitting the Bakersfield Homeless Center will take place at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace.
Starting at 6 p.m. Sept. 27, the auction will have 16 bachelors to be auctioned off, a homeless center news release said.
The money raised helps the homeless center facilitate year-around emergency shelter, food, clothing and supportive services.
