The Bakersfield Homeless Center is preparing for its annual Easter Eggstravaganza for children who receive services there and could use some help.
From 10 a.m. to noon March 23, children will participate in such Easter activities as an egg hunt, carnival, bounce house and a visit from the Easter Bunny at the center, 1600 E. Truxtun Ave.
The center is seeking donations of Easter goodies such as easter eggs, jelly beans, sweets and baskets and anything necessary to create the overall experience of Easter for the children, according to the center.
Donations are needed by March 20. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to call Jerri Alvarado at 322-9199, ext. 110.
More than 140 Kern High School District students are expected to attend the Business Leadership & Ethics Conference at the Doubletree Hotel.
On March 12, students will have the opportunity to interact with business people to explore the leadership qualities and ethical practices they will need in their careers, conference coordinator Mark Balch said in a news release.

Banfield Pet Hospital will host a grand opening of its new location in northeast Bakersfield Saturday with activities including contests, giveaways and hospital tours beginning at 9 a.m. at 2661 Oswell St.
To further commemorate the grand opening, 20 percent of Banfield's opening weekend revenue will be donated to the Helping Animals Live Tomorrow Rescue, according to a Banfield news release.
The seventh annual Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance rabbit and bunny run will take place March 30 at Yokuts Park and will include free family fun activities to start off the Easter weekend.
The bunny 5K run will begin at 8 a.m. and the rabbit 10K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. The bunny run is a quarter-mile course designed for children and includes prizes. The cost is $15 per child and each child will receive a T-shirt, tri-tip sandwich and an award ribbon.
Rabbit run early registration is $30 and ends on March 9. Regular registration is $35. Runners will receive a T-shirt, tri-tip sandwich lunch and a goodie bag.
Family activities include face painting, bouncy house, Easter Bunny photo booth, egg hunt and other fun games.
