Reading, housing groups among those looking for volunteers

Jesus Shack is looking for 40 volunteers to help staff a Newsboys/ Building 429 concert Saturday, Feb. 23, at Olive Knolls Nazarene Church. Various positions available include setup/take down, Jesus Shack booth, band merchandise, VIP line, front door, ticket takers and event staff. Event setup starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m. You must be available to work a minimum of a two-hour shift. For more information call 324-0638 or email volunteer@jesusshack.com.
Can You Read? Give someone else the gift of reading as a volunteer tutor for the Kern Adult Literacy Council. Just two hours a week can change someone's life. Programs offered: Adult basic education, general education development, English as a second language and family literacy program. Step-by-step instructional material is provided. Mayor's Freeway Cleanup needs volunteers to assist with de-littering the freeway off- and on-ramps. Vests, helmets and trash bags are provided. Volunteers will meet at 8:45 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Park & Ride lot on Stockdale Highway, west of Oak Street. Travel by bus/van to the various cleanup locations and return by 11 a.m. Mark your calendars for Feb 23, March 9 and 23, April 6 and 20, and May 4 and 18. For future cleanups and additional information, call 326-3770. If there's adverse weather (active rain or fog), cleanup will be cancelled.
