A 52-year-old Bakersfield man has been arrested on suspicion of felony animal cruelty in the case of a hogtied pit bull found last week.

James Worley was arrested Monday afternoon after Kern County Animal Control received a tip from the public, spokeswoman Kim Rodriguez said. Worley was being held on $10,000 bail and a court date was set for Wednesday morning in Lamont, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Department website.

"The public was very responsive to this story," Rodriguez said. "People understand dogs can't be treated like this."

Rodriguez said the investigation was ongoing. The pit bull will be quarantined for 10 days and then placed with a rescue group, she said.

The dog was found hogtied off Adobe Road near Sandrini Road and it was estimated that the dog had been in the field four or five hours.
