Detectives arrest three teen suspects in murder of 81-year-old

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

Three Bakersfield teenagers wanted in connection with the brutal murder of 81-year-old Dorothy Session were arrested Saturday and Sunday thanks to information supplied by area residents, Kern County Sheriff's officials said in a release Sunday.

At about 4 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's investigators located sisters Angelique Elandra Nash, 17, and Katila Ann Jean Nash, 15, near the Extended Stay motel near Chester Lane. The teens were taken into custody without incident, but a third suspect in the beating death, David Deshawn Moses, 17, was not with them.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood earlier credited the victim's neighbors and other members of the community for helping his department identify the suspects -- and that cooperation apparently continued unabated through Saturday.

As the search for Moses grew more intense, detectives receive several tips from the public regarding possible locations for Moses. Then in the early morning hours Sunday, detectives learned that Moses might turn himself in through a family pastor.

Detectives spoke with the pastor, and at about 1 a.m., the pastor brought Moses to the Kern County Juvenile Hall where he turned himself in, Sheriff's officials said.

All three teens were arrested on charges on murder, burglary and conspiracy.

The three teens are runways who have been on the streets for an unknown amount of time, law enforcement officials said. According to earlier sheriff's reports, they were seen in the area of Session's home the evening of the murder, knocking on doors, asking after a specific person and then leaving if the occupants were home. It is a tactic, deputies said, that thieves sometimes use to find a target for burglary.

The suspects reportedly entered Session's home through an unlocked back door.
