Deputy takes plea deal in jail beating case
By The Bakersfield Californian
A detention deputy will serve no more time in jail for assaulting an inmate as part of a plea agreement reached today.
Lisa Romero pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of assault under the color of authority.
The count was reduced from a felony under the agreement.
Daniel Thomas Lindini, Ralph Contreras, Roxanne Fowler, Angel Bravo and Romero are accused of beating up inmate James Moore in August. Moore died days later and Lindini, Contreras and Fowler were charged with murder.
Romero and Bravo were charged with assault.
Romero was sentenced to one day in jail, which she already served, and three years informal probation.
Lindini, Contreras, Fowler and Bravo also returned to court today to have their preliminary hearing date postponed. They are scheduled to return to court for that hearing on April 18.
