Labor leader and human rights activist Dolores Huerta was inducted into the California Hall of Fame during a ceremony Wednesday night at The California Museum in Sacramento, according to a press release.
She is part of the seventh class of inductees to join the Hall of Fame since the program began in 2006.
Cesar Chavez, who co-founded the United Farm Workers union with Huerta, was inducted as part of the first class, according to the website of The California Museum.
Huerta has won the Presidential Medal of Freedom and continues to be active in human rights efforts in Kern County through her Dolores Huerta Foundation.
Gov. Jerry Brown performed the induction ceremony. Huerta was joined by actor Warren Beatty and football star Joe Montana as part of the seventh class.
The California Hall of Fame was created, according to the Museum website, to "honor legendary people who embody California's innovative spirit and have made their mark on history."
The Kern County Republican Central Committee has voted to endorse Andy Vidak of Hanford for the 16th Senate District seat recently vacated by Michael Rubio. Vidak is the only Republican who has announced his candidacy for the post.
"We are requesting that the CA Republican Party also endorse Andy Vidak for the 16th Senate District," wrote Central Committee Chairman Dean Haddock in an email. "We are 'in it to win it' for the California GOP."
The Democrats running include Shafter City Councilwoman Fran Florez and Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez.
