Highway 99 shut down for suicidal subject

Highway 99 was still closed in both directions at Highway 155 in Delano at 7:45 p.m. Saturday as authorities tried to talk a distraught man out of jumping off an overpass, according to authorities.
Officials closed the highway at about 10 a.m. Traffic was backed up in both directions for some four miles, the California Highway Patrol said at mid-day.
The man was threatening to jump from the 155 overpass. Authorities have been re-routing traffic off 99 at 155 through Fremont Street and Ellington Street in Delano, and it was going smoothly, said Delano police Cmdr. Raul Alvizo.
