The most recent study from the California Travel and Tourism Commission showed that tourism spending in Kern County hit a record hight of almost $1.28 billion in 2011.
Monday on "First Look with Scott Cox," Californian editorial page editor Robert Price talked about the tourism growth Tehachapi has seen in recent years.
This weekend, Tehachapi's Apple Festival attracted more than 7,000 people, said David Brust with the festival.
"It did wonders for the businesses in downtown Tehachapi," Brust said.
This weekend also attracted many hot rod fans and tourists to Auto Club Famoso Raceway.
Brust said hotel rooms were booked and people drove as far as Delano for a place to stay.
So what's in the future for Tehachapi?
From 4 to 8 p.m. July 19, 2014, there will be a first-ever craft beer competition and barbecue challenge that is sure to attract many people, Brust said.
There will also be a 100-mile bike ride in Bear Valley Springs Sept. 19, 2014.
