One of the hottest political races in California this year gets feature billing Thursday when the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosts a forum with three candidates for the 21st Congressional District seat at the Beale Memorial Library.

Incumbent Rep. David Valadao, R-Hanford, Democratic candidate Amanda Renteria of Sanger and Democrat John Hernandez of Fresno have all confirmed they will be at the event, said Jay Tamsi, president and CEO of the chamber.

The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the county's main library in downtown Bakersfield, 701 Truxtun Ave.

A presentation on Covered California will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. with the forum starting at 6 p.m.

Seating is limited, Tamsi said.

Local businesses and residents can recycle e-waste for free Saturday at the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.

Items can be dropped off at the chamber parking lot, 1725 Eye St. downtown (entrance off 18th Street), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The chamber will earn credit for items dropped off and all proceeds will benefit its community work.

Alianza Recycling, a partner in the event, will also credit the chamber with items dropped at its location, 2301 Gibson St., Friday and Saturday.

Alianza Recycling will accept all electronic equipment having a circuit board, televisions, computers (CPUs), monitors, keyboards, mouses, laptops, Wii/Nintendo/Sony, peripherals, cables, radios, cell phones, household appliances, copiers, car batteries, medical equipment and fax machines.

Alianza will pick up larger items from any location in Bakersfield.

For more information, contact the chamber at 327-4421 or visit www.bakersfieldchamber.org.
