You can get a taste of downtown -- its good eats and its culture -- during the inaugural Taste of Downtown benefiting the Downtown Bakersfield Development Corp.
Party-goers will pay one price, $50, to "eat, eat, eat," Kevin Bartl, vice president of communications for the Condors, said Wednesday on "First Look with Scott Cox."
The event is to take place from 6 to 10 p.m. June 27 at JC's Place. Tickets may be purchased at the Downtown Business Association office or at the Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center.
The event is more than the food from an expected 20 or so restaurants, including The Padre, Mexicali, Chef's Choice Noodle Bar and Uricchio's Trattoria.
It's being held to benefit the new Downtown Bakersfield Development Corp., helping with redevelopment projects. The DBDC is trying to finish the work of the redevelopment agency that no longer exists after the state did away with them, said Bob Bell of the DBA.
"We're talking about the funding backbone" for downtown redevelopment, Bartl said. "This is a completely separate entity from the local government," he said.
