Large tree falls at Bakersfield College, striking student

    This large tree was uprooted in the Bakersfield College quad area during the Thursday afternoon windstorm. It llanded on a BC student, who was taken to a hospital, but was going to be OK, according to a BC spokeswoman at the scene. This happened right after 3:30 p.m. The Bakersfield Fire Department had to cut some of the branches near the upper portion of the tree where the student was sitting after they responded to the incident.

The fire department responded after 3:30 p.m. and had to cut several branches before removing a victim who was struck by the falling tree. The person who was struck was OK, according to a BC spokeswoman at the scene.

A large tree was uprooted at Bakersfield College's Panorama Drive campus Thursday, striking a student and sending her to a hospital.

Bakersfield College spokeswoman Amber Chiang said the student, who was not identified by name or age, was OK.

The tree came down in the afternoon windstorm. The Bakersfield Fire Department responded sometime after 3:30 p.m.

Firefighters had to cut several branches near the upper part of the tree before removing the victim. The student had been sitting when the tree came down.
