The ECHL Board of Governors approved the purchase of the Bakersfield Condors by the Edmonton Oilers at a meeting in Philadelphia, City Manager Alan Tandy said Wednesday afternoon.

The East Coast Hockey League board decision was expected, but necessary for the deal to go forward.

Also necessary is an updated lease agreement between the city and Katz Group of Companies to run the Condors and have them continue playing at Rabobank Arena.

The Bakersfield City Council will consider that lease, which would keep the Condors at Rabobank through June 2023, at its 5:15 p.m. meeting Wednesday.
