Pipe bomb found at country club

By The Bakersfield Californian

The Bakersfield Police Department bomb squad safely detonated a pipe bomb Friday afternoon near the Rio Bravo Country Club.

At about 1 p.m., a groundskeeper at the club found the live bomb at the base of a tree located about 75 yards west of the club’s building, said BPD Detective Mary DeGeare. The country club is located at 15200 Casa Club Drive.

The bomb squad arrived and police evacuated the club house and closed off a portion of the golf course, DeGeare said.

There were no injuries and no suspects.

Anyone with information about the bomb is asked to call police at 327-7111.
