The Bakersfield College Department of Performing Arts is having its Instrumental Music Spring Concert at the college gym.
At 7 p.m. April 25, the concert will feature the BC brass, drumline and jazz ensemble for an instrumental event. The brass ensemble will kick off the evening with a mix of brass arrangements from Copland to Corea. Their performance will be followed by the drumline performing their 2013 competitive program, "The Blueprint." The jazz ensemble will close the event with an outdoor set featuring the swinging music of Charles Mingus, a college news release said.
Tickets are $8 for the general public, $5 students/staff/seniors. Call 395-4404.
The Bakersfield Museum of Art invites the public to join the annual spring fundraiser at the museum gardens May 2.
From 6 to 9 p.m. attendees can enjoy a wine tasting, gourmet food and an auction of original wine-themed art, a news release said.
The money raised at the event wil go to museum art education programs. Tickets are $40 per person in advance, $50 per person at the door, and $75 per couple.
The California Living Museum will celebrate its 30th birthday with a bash with planned activities for zoo-goers of all ages.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18, animal keepers will give wildlife presentations and civic organizations will be on hand to provide party guests with information and giveaways, a CALM news release said.
There will be a bounce house, train rides, food and beverage booths and an opportunity-drawing table. Kids 12 and younger will be admitted free with a paid adult ticket.
CALM is at 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway, between Lake Ming and Hart Park.
