A Will Rogers Institute Awards Grant of nearly $35,000 will benefit the neonatal intensive care unit at the Lauren Small Children's Medical Center.

It will go toward pulmonary equipment at the center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, Jennifer Rogers-Etcheverry said during an appearance on "First Look with Scott Cox" Wednesday morning. The funds will be presented at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the hospital's Einstein Pavilion at the hospital's main entrance.

"I thought maybe I could help. This is one way I could help with my community," Rogers-Etcheverry said.

She is a board member of the Will Rogers Institute, and is his great-granddaughter.

Will Rogers, she said, wrote six books and a daily newspaper column, plus was part of more than 70 movies, in addition to radio broadcasts.

"He was known for a lot of his quotes," Rogers-Etcheverry said.

Also at Wednesday's event will be Dick Cook, who served for many years as president of Walt Disney Motion Pictures and is executive producer of Jackie Robinson's "42."
