Assault, kidnapping results in four arrests in east Bakersfield

Detectives say the motive behind an assault involving about 10 people armed with baseball bats and at least one gun -- during which a father took a 4-year-old child from his mother's home -- remains unknown.
But four gang members were arrested in connection with the Tuesday afternoon incident and booked on suspicion of crimes including attempted murder and kidnapping, deputies said. The child was returned to his mother unharmed.
Deputies said a gang unit deputy saw the incident begin at 4:49 p.m. in the front yard of a residence in the 700 block of Irene Street, south of Columbus Street and north of Highway 178. There were eight to 10 people in the yard, some armed with baseball bats and at least one armed with a gun.
The men involved in the fracas scattered, but the deputy managed to catch one of them and found a loaded gun that had been discarded by the man, according to deputies.
A perimeter was set up and three more suspects were taken into custody, deputies reported. Those arrested were Rodela Guerrero, 20, Abraham Rodriguez, 24, Alexander Rodriguez, 27, and a juvenile.
It was soon discovered a couple of people inside the Irene Street residence had been assaulted and suffered minor injuries, deputies said.
The investigation is ongoing.
