An alleged gang member who turned himself in at a local TV news station after being named a murder suspect pleaded not guilty Monday.

Brendan Sanders, 18, was ordered held without bail following his arraignment. Chief Deputy Public Defender Peter Kang is representing him.

Sanders arrived at KGET's studio at 2120 L St. just after 9 p.m. on Dec. 29 to turn himself in. He was wanted in connection with the 1 a.m. Nov. 24 fatal shooting of Jerry Gray, 35. Police came to the station and took Sanders into custody.

Gray was shot in the 700 block of Geneva Avenue in east Bakersfield.

Bakersfield police, through the Secret Witness program, had been offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges against Sanders.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ryan Kroeker at 326-3546 or Secret Witness at 322-4040.
