The Bakersfield Sound between 1952 and 1980 was the greatest period of music ever, music manager Bob Mitchell said. And that sound is being rediscovered.

Mitchell talked about the state of music Monday on "First Look with Scott Cox."

"It was during that era that Merle Haggard and Buck Owens made their mark in Bakersfield," Mitchell said.

Simulcast host Scott Cox agreed and said Haggard and Owens are what put Bakersfield on the map.

When Haggard fans come to visit Mitchell, he takes them around Bakersfield and shows them key locations where Haggard lived and recorded music.

"They (Haggard and Owens) were both innovators," Mitchell said.
