Worth noting: Local organizations hold fundraisers

The Guild House will participate in First Friday, Bakersfield's monthly arts celebration, according to a news release.
Guild House is a nonprofit restaurant that serves lunch on weekdays and is run by volunteers. Its proceeds benefit Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, a nonprofit mental health clinic for families and children.
On Friday, Guild House is selling one plate of appetizers, desserts and one glass of wine for $10 per person. An additional glass of wine costs $5. Live music will be performed by saxophonist Ken Fahsbender and keyboardist Larry Peahl.

Chuy's Mesquite Broiler is holding a head-shaving event on Saturday to raise funds for childhood cancer research, according to a news release.
Proceeds from the event will go to St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity that funds research on cures for childhood cancers.
Saturday's event was organized by the mother of a child, Garrett Hutchins, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2009 and is now cancer-free after multiple treatments. Hutchins has been honored by St. Baldrick's.
The event already has 60 participants committed to shaving their heads. It has a goal of raising $32,000. It will also include a live band and raffle.

A reverse draw fundraiser is being held Saturday in the Canyon Hills Assembly of God gym to raise funds and awareness for the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance, according to a news release.
The research alliance is a nonprofit that benefits research for treatments and a cure to Friedreich's Ataxia, a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder.
The raffle is being held specifically in honor of a Bakersfield man who was diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia at 13 years old and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Fresno Pacific University.
Tickets for the event cost $100. They include two dinners provided by Outback Steakhouse, soft drinks and dessert. Donated gift baskets will also be given out at random to attendees.
