Houchin Community Blood Bank is calling for all Os and As to donate blood. There is less than a week's supply of A- and O+ blood on hand, and the new business hours now make it possible to donate on your schedule.

Tuesday on "First Look with Scott Cox," blood bank President and CEO Greg Gallion talked about the new prizes donors can win when they donate blood.

There is a chance to win an iPad Mini or a trip for two to San Diego thanks to the Executive Association of Kern County and the Bakersfield Marriott, Gallion said. Or you can pick up a voucher for two admissions to a CSUB basketball game.

No matter what raffle you enter to win, just make it to either of the blood banks and give, Gallion said.

"Come in, get comfortable, eat a snack and save three lives," he said.

Many times, people forget to take time to donate blood until they need it in an emergency. But this shouldn't be the case, Gallion said.

"We need more givers and less takers," he said.

Hours for the blood bank at 11515 Bolthouse Drive: Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
