Parishoners and priests gathered Saturday afternoon for a groundbreaking ceremony for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at Old Farm and Reina roads.

Diocese of Fresno Bishop Armando X. Ochoa presided at the event. The pastor is Rev. Msgr. Perry Kavookjian.

Phase one of the parish building project is slated to be finished in December. The second phase will include building a 1,500-seat church.

The parish started in April 2008 with 200 registered families, and currently has 1,000 registered families, with more people participating in services and ministries, according to a statement from the church.
