The Sempra Energy Foundation will present a $20,000 grant to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County Tuesday as part of the foundation's 2011 Education Initiative, a Boys and Girls Clubs news release said Monday.
The grant will be used at the Lamont Boys and Girls Club to support Project Learn, an educational enhancement program that includes homework help and tutoring, special "high-yield" learning activities, work with parents to get them more involved, collaboration with schools and learning "incentives," the release said.
San Diego-based Sempra Energy is a parent company of the Southern California Gas Company, which operates in Kern County.
"The Sempra Foundation is proud to partner with and support those who give back such positive energy to their communities," said Rob Duchow, a Southern California Gas Company spokesman and Sempra Energy Foundation representative, in a statement. "The after school program of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County is one such positive program the (foundation) is pleased to assist."
The release said the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kern County operate a little more than 50 sites, which serve about 5,000 kids daily.
A check presentation will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Lamont Boys and Girls Club, 8301 Segrue St.
