Worth noting: Local franchise funds flight for veterans
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
A Bakersfield franchise helped three wounded veterans travel comfortably on Sunday.
Window World of Bakersfield paid for an aircraft and pilot to fly three wounded veterans from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to Mississippi to speak to Marines awaiting deployment, said Greg Deathridge, president and CEO of Window World of Bakersfield.
"They got a chance to get out in the field, talk about their experiences, see some of their friends," Deathridge said. "They were so appreciative."
Speaking from Washington, D.C., Wednesday, Deathridge said the company supported the veterans through the nonprofit Veterans Airlift Command.
"We do this because it's tough for them to fly commercial," Deathridge said, noting that navigating airport security can be cumbersome for veterans with prosthetics.
