Boys & Girls Club has mentor orientation training at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month. The next training is at 5 p.m June 18. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and pass a fingerprint scan. To find out how you can make a difference in a child's life call Henry Chatman at 325-3730.

Kern County Library has a special volunteer opportunity for children and teens. The library is looking for creative kids between the ages of 8-18 to help decorate and design Magic Reading Carpets in the style of favorite children's books. Use paint, markers and stencils to decorate carpet squares from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. June 25 in the Beale Memorial Library auditorium, 701 Truxtun Ave. Kids between the ages of 8-14 must be accompanied by a parent. Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for another Chamber Palooza, 6-10 p.m. July 12 at the Kern County Museum. This is a great networking opportunity to meet business people in the community. Volunteer positions are: food passport stamper, greeter/ticket exchange, silent auction attendant and volunteer floater. CALM, the California Living Museum, is looking for volunteers to help as zookeeper assistant and in groundskeeping and maintenance. American Cancer Society is looking for energetic volunteers to help in the Discovery Shop on California Avenue. This is a great volunteer opportunity for motivated people who love customer service. For more information on how you can help American Cancer Society call 324-1359.

Bakersfield Sound is a nonprofit collegiate summer baseball team for local high school graduates playing at a college level. Volunteers are needed to assist as van drivers for out-of-town games, and also as game-day volunteers. If you are a baseball fan and would like more information, please call Dave Packer at 665-8800.
