If you cook it, you'll eat it.
That is what Chef Gino Campagna -- host of KitchenDaily's Kitchen Kids -- said Thursday on "First Look with Scott Cox."
Campagna is an Italian chef living in Los Angeles who has dedicated his life to teaching children how to both appreciate and prepare fresh, healthy food.
"Use fresh ingredients, make things from scratch and they will love it," he said.
Campagna will be sharing ideas and tips at the 5th Annual Healthy Bakersfield Expo on Saturday. He has been traveling California sharing his mission -- to create great food for kids while promoting healthier food choices.
When it comes time to create healthier meals, snacks in an area Campagna spends extra time on because one-third of daily calorie intake comes from snacks. And there are nutritious snacks that can replace the chips and soda go-to snack.
"Snacks that include vegetables or milk products are great," he said.
One way to incorporate healthy food choices is to take kids to the grocery store and involve them in the selection of food, the chef said.
"Expose them to different food at the market, different aromas in the kitchen and involve them in the preparation," he said.
The expo is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rabobank Theater. Admission is free.
